Residents of Port Coquitlam were devastated earlier this year when one of the UWAOC sponsored Little Libraries was vandalized in Wellington Park. The library was one of six put into the community to share the love of reading and sense of community.
Upon hearing the sad news, residents quickly mobilized to start book drives, and awareness for safety in the area through social media. Trevor Street, a real estate agent that grew up in Port Coquitlam reached out after he saw the article about our Wellington Little Library. He generously donated to rebuild the library as he felt compelled to give back to the community that was so good to him.
Thanks to Trevors’ donation as well as the hard work from Chris Coakley from Poco Building Supplies, our Wellington Park Little Library was rebuilt.
On August 21, 2018 UWAOC celebrated the relaunch of our beloved library. Residents, children, the United Way of the Lower Mainland and community partners such as the City of Port Coquitlam, Block Watch, Poco Heritage, the RCMP, and Community Policing all attended with books in tow to show their local love.
